Resident in Counseling
Amanda Kaliner (she/her/hers) is a Resident in Counseling providing both telehealth and in-person sessions at Healthy Minds Therapy. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with both a Maser of Science in Education and a Master of Philosophy in Education, with a focus on Professional Counseling. She graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology.
Amanda has extensive experience working with adolescents in school, group therapy, and outpatient settings. Amanda currently specializes in LGBTQIA+ issues, mood disorders, self-esteem, peer relations, and life transitions for adolescents in young adults ages 10 – 30.
Amanda utilizes a person-centered, strengths-based approach to therapy, while also utilizing a clinical structure. Each person’s experiences are unique and Amanda wants to make sure that clients are getting what they need out of each session. She believes in letting the client establish the intention of each session and guiding them through a therapeutic process. Amanda is trained in CBT, DBT, and strength-based counseling.
Amanda believes that counseling relationships are best served by honesty, humor, and compassion. Amanda hopes that her clients will gain the confidence, esteem, and autonomy needed to achieve any of the goals they set for themselves.
As a Resident in Counseling, Amanda is currently working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. Amanda works under the supervision of Christy Heyn, Clinical Supervisor and LPC for Healthy Minds Therapy.
