Barbara Schmanski

Graduate Level Intern

Barbara is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling intern currently completing her Master’s degree at Walden University. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from George Mason University and brings experience working primarily with adults and aging adults in supportive care settings.

Her clinical interests include helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, and everyday stressors. Barbara integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based practices in her approach, aiming to create a collaborative and compassionate space where clients feel heard and empowered.

With a background rooted in a Hispanic household and personal experience as a military spouse, Barbara brings cultural sensitivity and empathy to her work. She believes in meeting clients where they are, fostering a supportive and nonjudgmental space where healing and growth can take place.

Outside of counseling, Barbara enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs, Chewy and Bronco, going to the gym, reading fantasy novels, listening to true crime podcasts, and binge-watching her comfort shows.

Barbara is a Graduate Level Intern and is working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. She works under the supervision of Dr. Michael Deitz, LPC, and Director of Graduate Fieldwork. In the event that clients have any questions or concerns about Barbara’s work, her supervisor can be contacted at drdeitz@healthyminds-therapy.com or by phone at (540) 845-6940.Â
