Resident in Counseling
Life can often feel overwhelming, but no one should have to go through it alone. When challenges become too heavy to carry, it can be difficult to know where to turn. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive space where we can work together to create positive changes and help you move toward your aspirations.
I specialize in working with children and adolescents, using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), attachment theory, emotional regulation strategies, and mindfulness techniques to help clients build resilience, reach their therapeutic goals, and realize their potential. I earned my B.A. in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University, with minors in Music as a Healing Art and Sociology, and went on to complete my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Marymount University. With over three years of experience as a Registered Behavior Technician, I have had the privilege of supporting children and adolescents of all ages in behavior analysis and goal setting. Beyond the therapy room, I bring ten years of experience as a cheerleading coach, leading multiple competitive teams. These experiences have taught me the value of encouragement, persistence, and teamwork—values I bring into every session.
Therapy is not a quick fix, but with consistent effort and support, it can transform both mental health and sense of self. Having been a lifelong cheerleader, I see it as my role to cheer you on every step of your healing journey.
As a Resident in Counseling, Isabel is involved in Virginia’s state licensure process to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She works under the supervision of Carolyn Alvarado, LPC, at Healthy Minds Therapy. For any questions or concerns related to Isabel’s work, Carolyn can be reached at calvarado@healthyminds-therapy.
