Resident in Counseling
I believe everybody needs someone to listen to—a person who will not give advice but guidance, who is challenging yet gentle, and will help you solve your problems. I believe it’s more important to process what is happening to you than to ignore it and hope it will go away.
Hello, I’m Maria. I have worked with many diverse clients, from college students to people who are middle-aged. It seems that my clients had a common problem: they struggled with processing their past, which impeded them from having a fulfilling future. I have guided clients on their journey to healing from their past.
During our initial session, I will listen to you tell your story. I want to hear about your struggles and barriers that you feel might keep you from living a fulfilling life. Then, we can work together on achieving your goals and what you want to get out of therapy, so you can improve your self-esteem and personal relationships and achieve your personal goals. I want us to work through your past history and other factors that might keep you stagnant and impact your life.
I focus on using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Gottman therapy. In the past, I worked with various populations with different concerns and problems. However, I find myself proficient in working with people who struggle with PTSD, anxiety, and depression, people who are diagnosed with intellectual disabilities, and premarital and marital couples. I see my job is giving you the tools to manage your struggles, so eventually you will not need me anymore. I was taught that to be a good therapist, you work yourself out of a job by empowering clients to be free from past and presenting struggles. I am looking forward to hearing your story and guiding you on this journey.
