Resident in Counseling
Uma (she/her) understands that seeking therapy is difficult, and on top of that, finding the right therapist by reading numerous profiles is a daunting task. She aims to meet the client where they are and create a supportive environment where they feel heard and comfortable discussing their experiences, needs, and goals.
Uma is a Resident in Counseling offering both virtual and in-person services at our Alexandria location. She has a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from George Washington University (GWU) and a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and microbiology from the University of Florida (UF). During her time at GWU and UF, Uma has worked with a diverse population, including children, young adults, and the elderly, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, adjusting to life transitions, multicultural difficulties, bipolar disorder, ADHD, school and employment stress, and various physical disabilities.
In therapy, Uma uses an integrative approach drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioral, Person-Centered, Psychodynamic, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapies. She is dedicated to helping individuals achieve personal growth and identify their core values. With empathy and collaboration, Uma helps clients identify their unconscious and negative thoughts/self-concepts.
As an immigrant herself, Uma understands the complexities of balancing cultures, navigating new environments, and striving for success. She views each client as the expert of their own life and is committed to understanding their unique values to support them on their healing journey!
Uma is a Resident in Counseling and is working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. She works under the supervision of Jack Fox, LPC. In the event that clients have any questions or concerns about Uma’s work, her supervisor can be contacted at jfox@healthyminds-therapy.com or by phone at (540) 845-6940.
