Supervisee in Clinical Social Work

Cara (she/her/hers) is a Clinical Social Work Supervisee providing telehealth sessions at Healthy Minds Therapy. She recently graduated with a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, with a focus on School Social Work, and received a Bachelor of the Arts in Art History and Fine Art from the University of Missouri.

Cara has experience working with children and adolescents in and out of school settings and with adults in outpatient settings. Cara strives to serve diverse clients from all walks of life. She has worked with clients in the areas of self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, life transitions, and relationship stress (peer/familial/romantic).

Following a person-centered and strengths-based approach, Cara believes that clients are the experts in their lives and have the inner capacity to overcome any challenge. Cara works to create a safe supportive place for clients to be their authentic selves without judgment where they can grow in self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-determination toward change and greater authenticity. Cara also believes in the power of mindfulness and grounding techniques to work through overwhelm, narrative techniques to guide clients toward authorship of their story, and the use of cognitive behavioral therapy alongside motivational interviewing to help clients identify and work through unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. If you believe Cara could be a good fit for you and your goals, please reach out to meet with her today!

As a Supervisee, Cara is also committed to serving clients with competence and integrity and is working towards licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia under the supervision of Shelton Poulter, Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
