Resident in Counseling
Yusra Ahmed (she/her) is a bilingual Counseling Resident at Healthy Minds Therapy (fluent in Urdu/Hindi), supporting individuals and families as they navigate healing, identity, and meaningful change.
Yusra earned her M.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from William & Mary. Her clinical experience includes supporting immigrant families, helping clients explore how culture, family systems, and lived experiences shape their emotional world, and working as a Registered Behavioral Therapist, where she gained experience with children on the autism spectrum as part of her early clinical training.
Yusra specializes in generational trauma, religious trauma, trauma, anxiety, depression, burnout, maternal mental health, cultural identity concerns, supporting clients of color, grief, and life transitions. She uses an integrative intercultural counseling approach uniquely tailored to each person’s needs, drawing from narrative therapy, DBT, CBT, and self-compassion based tools to help clients reconnect with their stories, strengthen emotional resilience, and move toward meaningful growth. Her work is grounded in culturally responsive care that honors each client’s lived experience.
Outside the therapy room, Yusra enjoys hiking, exploring nature, and traveling the world whenever she has time off.
“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” — Maya Angelou
As a Resident in Counseling, Yusra is involved in Virginia’s state licensure process to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She works under the supervision of Carolyn Alvarado, LPC, at Healthy Minds Therapy. For any questions or concerns related to Yusra’s work, Carolyn can be reached at calvarado@healthyminds-therapy.
