Graduate Level Intern
Zoe Simms is a Graduate Level Intern currently pursuing her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Walden University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from James Madison University. Zoe has experience providing Intensive In-Home counseling and Therapeutic Day Treatment services in school settings, as well as working as a special education teacher in alternative therapeutic schools. Through these roles, she has primarily worked with children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges.
Inspired by her own journey with mental health and the support that helped her grow, Zoe is passionate about creating a safe, welcoming space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. She enjoys working with individuals of all ages and has clinical interests in anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, autism, relationship concerns, self-esteem, behavioral challenges, women’s wellness, and school-related concerns.
Zoe’s counseling approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, emphasizing compassion, collaboration, authenticity, curiosity, and empowerment. As she continues her clinical training, she incorporates techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to meet each client’s unique needs and goals. She believes that meaningful growth occurs when clients feel safe enough to explore their experiences while also being supported and appropriately challenged throughout the therapeutic process.
Outside of counseling, Zoe enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, creating artwork and doodles, and relaxing with her two cats, Tito and Cinnamon.

Zoe is a Graduate Level Intern and is working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia.
