Jennifer Drum

Licensed Professional Counselor

Jennifer Drum is a Licensed Professional Counselor at Healthy Minds Therapy, PLLC.  Prior to relocating to Virginia from New York, Jennifer earned her MA in Counseling and Advanced Certificate in Mental Health Counseling from Manhattan College.  She also earned a Certificate in Health Coaching with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and is certified in Reiki I.

Jennifer supports her clients through a holistic and person-centered lens.  She believes in an integrative approach to mental health and well-being that honors the mind, body, and spirit.  Jennifer views therapy as a sacred space to explore one’s inner landscape.  She believes that seeking help to address challenges in one’s life is truly a strength.  Things do not change if we do not give them the energy and time to make a shift.  Having her own journey as a client in therapy, Jennifer values the safety that the therapeutic relationship offers us to look at our experiences both past and present, and go into our hearts to see what needs to change and/or heal so that we can be more present in our lives.  She encourages her clients to stay curious and open to the possibility for change, growth, and healing.

Jennifer‘s career background includes both working and interning in agency and educational settings.  She has experience working with individuals who are struggling with challenges related to adjustment, anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal relationships, grief and loss, chronic pain, substance use, body image, hoarding, and the LGBTQ+ community.  Before relocating to Virginia, she worked closely with individuals who had experienced an acquired or traumatic brain injury as they were navigating the many aspects of post-injury life.

Jennifer was an NCAA Division I student-athlete and has coached at both the club and college levels.  During these years in sport, she has closely examined both the positive aspects and personal challenges one may face in high-level athletics.  From her athletic experience, she fostered her deep connection to the importance of mental health and total well-being of the athlete as a whole person and not simply as a performer.

Jennifer considers her approach Eclectic and Integrative.  She will bring in tools, strategies and interventions that support the client’s journey toward their identified goals. Jennifer works out of our Alexandria office and is also available for telehealth sessions.
